What is a Cloud Video Platform (CVP)?

What is the CVP and when might you be asked to use it? – resource

What Is A Cloud Video Platform?

A Cloud Video Platform (CVP) is a secure video communication network that connects users securely to the justice system. It is designed to give HMCTS the ability to conduct court cases digitally with users who have devices equipped with video, audio and internet capabilities. Following a lifting of lockdown in the UK in 2020, CVP has been rolled out to conduct hearings remotely allowing the judicial system to operate, offering a solution to attempt to tackle the backlog of court cases that were postponed as a result of the impact of Covid-19.

The digital platform is being utilised in 60 crown courts and over 90 magistrates’ courts. Access to the Cloud Video Platform can be made by any device with a camera and a microphone through provided access details given to you by the court. Once all users have securely joined the court session, it can then be locked to enable the private hearing to go ahead with only those allowed into the session granted access.

How To Connect To The CVP?

Connecting to the Cloud Video Platform (CVP) requires a stable internet connection and quality audio and video enabled devices. As a digital technology, it can be accessed by a range of devices including desktops, laptops, mobiles and tablets – however it is recommend to ensure you choose a device with the best microphone and video possible to ensure your court hearing is not interrupted by any audio or video issues.

Remember that just like attending a court in person, there are rules and regulations to follow including considerations for yourself to make to ensure you can be seen, heard and present yourself well to the judge and courtroom attendees.

Keep in mind the following:

  • Ensure you are in a quiet area and are unlikely to be disturbed.
  • Ensure lighting is good and that you can be seen clearly.
  • Test your audio, video and internet connection before you join. This is imperative, as a delay could delay your entire court hearing – if this is something you are worried about, speak to our helpful concierge team.
  • Dress appropriately
  • Respect usual etiquette when addressing the court.

Is There Help To Connect To CVP?

Yes, absolutely. At Eyenetwork we specialise in assisting our users with audio and video solutions for the judicial sector.

Currently we’re offering a CVP concierge service where we will help train you how to set up correctly, or simply do the job for you. Our technician will be on hand should any issues occur – this enables you to focus on the court case itself.

Important Notice

If you are connecting to the CVP, we advise you to test your audio and video prior to the date and time of your hearing. Doing this will provide peace of mind and ensure any connectivity or audio/video issues are fixed well in advance.
