A new mobile phone app which encourages employees to be ‘more green’ was launched yesterday (October 2nd).
CloudApps, a sustainability software firm, has developed SuMo – an employee engagement app which uses gamification to reward good ‘eco’ behaviour, cloudpro.co.uk.
While it’s unlikely the app will transform the workforce into a team of ‘eco-warriors’, it is hoped that it might help change some habits. It sets challenges such as walking to the office or car pooling for which virtual rewards are awarded.
Other tasks include using video conferencing instead of attending a set number of meetings, completing the Three Peaks challenge and sharing best practice, businessgreen.com reports.
Injecting a little friendly competition into the proceedings, participants are listed on a virtual scoreboard according to the challenges that have been completed. Management can then monitor engagement levels, cost and carbon savings through a central console.
Emphasising further that the app could be used across an entire business, Peter Grant, CloudApps’ CEO, said: “SuMo is a clear expression of CloudApps’ vision for motivating entire workforces to become more sustainable by becoming more profitable.
“The proven results we are now seeing… prove this is not just an exciting app for employees, but a key management tool that takes sustainability from an abstract, top-down discipline to a bottom-up approach delivering real results.”
